Missing network icon on the Windows notification expanse

Network icon in the Windows Notification Area

By default, the network icon found in the Windows notification area (systray) is frequently turned off and not visible. To enable and prove the network icon, follow the steps beneath for your version of Windows.

Note

Windows 11 does not allow you to hide the network icon in the Windows notification area. Because the icon is never disabled, it should never need to be re-enabled.

Windows 8 and 10

  1. Press the Windows key, blazon taskbar settings, and press Enter. Alternatively, you tin can right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
  2. On the right side of the Taskbar Settings window, scroll down to the Notification surface area section, and click the Select which icons appear on the taskbar link.
  3. Click the toggle to the On position for the Network icon.

or

  1. Printing the Windows key, blazon taskbar settings, and press Enter. Alternatively, y'all can right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
  2. On the right side of the Taskbar Settings window, curl downwards to the Notification area section, and click the Turn organisation icons on or off link.
  3. Click the toggle to the On position for the Network icon.

Windows Vista and seven

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Properties in the pop-up carte du jour.
  2. In the Taskbar and Offset menu Backdrop window, click the Customize button in the Notification area department on the Taskbar tab.
  3. Under Icons, discover the Network entry. To the correct of that entry, under Behaviors, make certain Show icon and notifications is selected in the drop-downwards menu.
  4. At the bottom of the window, click the Turn organization icons on or off link.
  5. For the Network entry under System Icons, select On in the drop-down carte du jour to the right.
  6. Click the OK button on each open window to save the setting changes and close the windows.

Windows XP and before

  1. Right-click the My Network Places or Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop and select Properties. If this icon is non available, open Network Connections from the Control Panel.
  2. In the Network connections window, right-click the network you desire to view the network icon for and select Properties. For example, correct-click "Local Area Connection" and select Properties.
  3. Finally, in the properties window, bank check the Show icon in taskbar when connected or Show icon in notification area when continued box at the lesser of the window.
  4. Click the OK button on each open window to save the setting changes and close the windows.
